When Uncle Koso first heard me deliver a poem for my Mum’s 80th birthday, he was pleasantly surprised. He encouraged me to continue writing poems and even gave me some tips about writing stories, beginning with short stories. He also introduced me to the colleagues in his writing circle in Freetown. During my several years in Freetown we became quite close, bonding over poetry, stories and family land issues.
I will miss his calm manner, quick wit and eternal creativity. In honour of his 90th birthday in March 2022, I wrote a poem entitled “Kosonike:The Protean”. I’ve attached it here to reflect the lasting impression I have of him in his many faceted roles.
Rest in peace Uncle Koso. Make God gee you good road 🙏🏾
